Your next trip to Mexico will certainly be a blast! There is so much to see and do when traveling to Mexico, including laying on the beach, shopping in authentic Mexican markets, and experiencing the local cuisine and nightlife. And though, you will definitely have a great time vacationing in Mexico, you should take some special safety precautions to be careful on your trip.

  • Use travelers checks. Carry very little cash with you if possible.
  • Leave your jewelry at home. There's no need to make yourself a target for theft by flaunting expensive jewelry or clothes.
  • Don't leave your luggage or purse attended. Keep an eye on your bags at all times, particular in crowded areas such as airports, bus stations, beaches and markets.
  • Carry a light with you after dark. If you must travel after dark, avoid dim lit streets and carry a small flashlight.
  • Learn some basic Spanish. If you aren't fluent in Spanish, at least learn some basic phrases such as "Please," "Thank you," "Help," "Call the police," and "Where is the bathroom?" It's also a good idea to carry a Spanish dictionary with you.
When choosing a place to stay in Mexico, avoid the crowded resorts by renting a vacation rental homes in Mexico instead.
